Night life
Picture taken between San Francisco and Sausalito, California, USA, March 24, 2013.
This picture is part of a project called Touristic characters, where I photographed tourists in famous places over the world.
We celebrate travels, but despise the noisy and vulgar tourists who ruin our view when we are trying to take a picture of ourselves in front of the illustrious monuments to prove that we were there as well.
We should be the only tourists, and the postcards that we send to our family from abroad always represent deserted landscapes.
For a long time I had ignored my fellows when travelling. But, by continually having them ruining my backgrounds, I decided to make them the subject of my photographs.
Paying attention to them, I discovered that, even if they all look the same with their cameras and comfortable clothes, each tourist expresses a strong emotion that makes him fascinating.
Their varied reactions lead to a lot of small scenes, and the must sees of big cities become the mere set of an endless comedy featuring many characters.
